Starting and Running a Gymnastics Club: Insights and Experiences with Georgia Bonora from Bonora Sports.

Bonora Sports is a place where passion meets precision, and dreams take flight. It was founded by Georgia Bonora, whose love for gymnastics runs deep, having represented Australia as a dual Olympian. This club is more than just a gymnastics centre—it’s a community dedicated to fostering their values and appreciation for the sport.

The heart and soul of the club is the founder, Georgia, who has been captivated by gymnastics from a young age. Her journey through the sport, from athlete to coach, has been driven by an unwavering commitment to excellence and a desire to share the joy of gymnastics with others. This passion is the cornerstone in which the club was built and a desire to action all the plans and ideas Georgia had for developing this sport but could not bring to life unless she owned her own venue.

Starting Bonora Sport was a labour of love that involved meticulous planning and unwavering dedication, but one thing was always at the forefront of Georgia’s mind: She wanted to bring the entertainment factor back to the sport.

Georgia heavily researched the RGA model that was being offered and felt the unique pathway was one that she really liked. “The support I received, the flexible coach education framework and the team’s availability to answer any questions I had was one of the key things I loved about RGA” says Georgia. The savings I was able to make from the cost-effective model enabled me to put more back into the retention and community building activities I wanted to provide our members.

Gymnastics has always been a sport that combines athleticism, discipline and artistry. However, over the recent years, it has been constrained by stringent guidelines and boundaries. “I wanted to showcase gymnastics in a new light and bring the entertainment value back to gymnastics,” says Georgia. I plan to attract more public interest and make gymnastics more engaging for both participants and spectators.

One key aspect of Georgia’s vision is to highlight gymnastics as an extreme sport. Often, gymnastics is seen through the lens of Olympic competitions. However, Georgia believes that gymnastics’ inherent challenges and high-energy performances classify it as an extreme sport. By promoting this perspective, we hope to change public perception and generate more excitement.

Choosing the RGA path for our gymnastics club was an easy decision. The RGA system offers several key benefits that align with our clubs’ goals and values, making it an ideal choice. “No question was too difficult, and I always got an answer, not run around to various different people within the business”, says Georgia.

One of the primary advantages of the RGA system is its comprehensive coach education structure. This framework ensures that our coaches are well-trained, knowledgeable and equipped to provide high-quality instruction to our gymnasts.  The RGA focus on continuous professional development helps our coaches stay updated with the latest techniques and best practices in gymnastics, ultimately benefiting our members.

Another significant benefit is the trust we have in the RGA process and the trust that RGA places in us as industry professionals to train our team to the highest standard. RGA is known for its structured and transparent approach, which provides a clear pathway for coaches to develop their skills effectively and keeps them motivated and engaged in the sport.

Coaching is not the only priority for many of our team, so we really liked the fact that under the RGA model, we could train our way, at a time that works for us, and not have to be ready for a certain time as that’s when the course was being run.

I have been really happy with my decision to join RGA; if I were to pass on any words of wisdom to anyone considering RGA, I would say what have you got to lose by giving them a try.

Additionally, it’s important to note that Georgia is not only offering gymnastics through Bonora Sport but also provides a variety of other sports and activities. These include parkour, cheerleading, and dance, which can attract a broader clientele to her centre. The RGA coaching framework is designed to be flexible and can easily adapt to these different genres, making it a versatile tool for Georgia to develop her coaches across multiple disciplines.
