When considering what makes a great child focused program, we focus on skill development, coaching quality, and competition. But there’s something more foundational that determines whether a young athlete truly thrives — whether they feel like they belong.

Inclusion isn’t a checkbox. It’s a daily practice, and in child-focused activities, it’s one of the most powerful tools we have.

Belonging Fuels Performance

Athletes who feel accepted perform better, take more risks, and persist longer through challenges. When a child walks into your facility and sees themselves reflected in the programming and coaching, they engage fully. When they don’t, they disengage — quietly, and often without ever telling you why.

What Inclusion Looks Like in Practice

It means examining who your programs are designed for — and who they might be leaving out. Are your communications reaching families from diverse backgrounds? Do your fees and scheduling create invisible barriers? Does your coaching team reflect the community you serve? These aren’t easy questions, but the facilities willing to ask them are the ones that grow.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

I’m offering a free 30-minute discovery call for RGA members who want to explore how inclusion can strengthen their facility. Every child who walks through your doors deserves to feel like they belong there — and I’d love to help you make that happen.
